After graduating in 1981 with a degree in Economics from Washington University in St. Louis, Mr. Barnes worked as a legal assistant at the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office before obtaining his law degree from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1986.

Admitted to the Florida Bar in 1986, Mr. Barnes has over 25 years of experience as a trial attorney in Florida. Mr. Barnes has successfully litigated civil, business and construction disputes for clients that include general contractors, subcontractors, material equipment suppliers, and both commercial and residential owners. Mr. Barnes, Board Certified in Construction Law, has represented construction contractors, and applicants for construction licenses, before the Construction Industry Licensing Board. EXAMPLES OF RECENT ENGAGEMENTS

obtained a $1.5 million settlement for a client in a construction accident lawsuit;

negotiated a settlement of $250,000 for a client on a construction payment bond claim in connection with the Orange County Convention Center expansion project;

obtained a trial verdict for a construction contractor client in a construction lien case in Lake County Circuit Court that included reimbursement of costs and attorney’s fees;

obtained a settlement for $600,000 for a Central Florida client after filing suit in the U.S. District Court in the Northern Mariana Islands on a promissory note in connection with the sale and purchase of an ocean vessel;

obtained a final judgment for $233,584.00 in Volusia County Circuit Court for money owed for the construction of a medical complex;

negotiated settlements / obtained judgments for construction material equipment suppliers in numerous jurisdictions across Florida;
